Are you dreaming of a powerful birth story?

I am obsessed with the idea that women hold all the power, knowledge, expertise, and decision-making rights in their own bodies, pregnancies, babies, and births.

Stepping into that power is part of the transformation.

At Being & Born, I provide comprehensive professional midwifery services in Maryland and Virginia to support you in a safe, gentle birth that is centered on your wishes and experience.

Birth is something that we can exalt in, given the space and support to do so.

Can I tell you some birth stories?

  • Once upon a time, I attended a 15-year-old mama at a small birth center on the US/Mexico border. She labored hard. Her mother, sister, and boyfriend all surrounded her with love and support. I held her hand, rubbed her back, moved through position changes, monitored mom and baby for their health and wellness, and stayed present. More than a few times, she wanted to give up but always re-centered her resolve. After the baby was born, the mama turned to me with light just beaming out of her face and said, "I KNOW I can do ANYTHING now because I just did that!!!"

  • A mother is birthing her fourth child. She craves music and company. We turn up the volume and have a Beyoncé dance party. Her daughter is born to the sound of Halo. No medication, no rules, just pure joy and freedom.

  • A peaceful, candlelit waterbirth. A baby born into his mother’s hands while her midwife watches quietly. As the mother lifts her baby out of the water, her son locks eyes with her and will not break her gaze. They are perfectly attuned and all move skillfully to preserve that beautiful moment.

Being & Born is a concierge midwifery practice for families in Maryland and Virginia.

This means you receive premium, 1:1, exclusive care with your personal midwife.

Typical OB practices run like a factory, with long wait times and short appointments; they make their income by seeing as many patients as possible.

Being & Born’s approach is to provide high-quality, attentive, individualized service and limit the number of births per month so I can provide the best care possible. Your birth and baby are worth it!

How I Can Support you

The Being & Born Home Birth Package

Being & Born creates a unique birth experience that is gentle, safe, and empowering.

This package includes: comprehensive prenatal care, continuous support throughout labor and birth, and extended postpartum care for mother and baby. Prenatal and postpartum care is provided at my Berlin, MD office inside the Bloom House. All families have a 36 week prenatal home visit, as well as postpartum home visits during the first week after the birth.

Home Birth Midwifery Care is an excellent choice for mothers who are excited about collaborative, woman-centered care and who want the extraordinary experience of a natural birth.

Hospital Birth Package

Maybe home birth is not for you or maybe it doesn’t feel like the right fit for your family. What you do know is that you hate the assembly-line, factory feeling of the high-volume OB offices in our area. You are so much more than a number!

Is there a way to have the attention and connection of a homebirth midwife but still give birth in the hospital? Yes.

For low-risk families who prefer to give birth in the hospital but desire the personalized one-on-one care of a midwife, Being & Born offers prenatal and postpartum appointments for mom and baby.

“[During the birth,] I was in my zone and finally came back to earth when Chloe told me to reach for my baby. I found a new love in my heart for my husband and gave birth to our beautiful healthy baby. I couldn’t have planned a better birth surrounded by my family….Thank you Chloe for being a wonderful midwife and friend! I loved every minute of it and would do it all over again tomorrow if I could.”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A CPM is a Certified Professional Midwife, a national credential awarded by The North American Registry of Midwives. CPMs are exclusively trained in midwifery care in out-of-hospital settings. CPMs provide gynecological services (such as pap smears and annual exams), prenatal care, out-of-hospital birth services, and postpartum care for mother and baby. They are licensed health care providers in Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia.

  • Insurance will cover lab work, including ultrasound. I work with a medical billing specialist who has ample experience in billing for home births, and clients have the option to submit a "benefits inquiry" to find out if home birth services will be reimbursed by their insurer - in whole or in part. More and more insurance companies are reimbursing for home births! If you are a member of a health share organization, those organizations often reimburse 100% of midwifery care fees.

Insurance Coverage: Being & Born is an “out-of-network” provider. However, I recommend reaching out to True Healthcare Billing - a billing service that specializes in obtaining insurance reimbursement for home birth families.. Families have the option to submit a Verification of Benefits inquiry to find out if home birth services will be reimbursed by their insurer - in whole or in part.

More and more insurance companies are reimbursing for home births! It is possible to receive complete or partial reimbursement for your home birth expenses, depending on your policy. If you are a member of a health share organization, those organizations often cover 100% of midwifery care fees.

I’ll be honest - insurance billing is NOT my forte. I recommend speaking with a specialist like True Healthcare Billing for your insurance/health share questions.

  • Absolutely! I never want anyone to miss out on home birth because of finances. Payment plans are available. A sliding fee scale is available for based on household income and family size.

  • I like to say you’re never too late until the baby is born! Women come into my care at every stage of pregnancy. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Being & Born - whether you are 6 weeks, or even 36 weeks along!

That said, my calendar fills quickly and space is extremely limited. If you are exploring home birth, I recommend reaching out sooner rather than later.

  • Typically, I only serve families on the Delmarva Peninsula (the eastern shores of Maryland and Virginia). However, for families who are fully committed to working with Being & Born, I do offer travel midwifery services as my schedule allows.

  • "This pregnancy I found not only a deep need and calling for more personalized and genuine care, but desire to experience birth undisturbed and in the divine way it was intended. This lead me to find Chloe with Being & Born. The level of care that Chloe provided shined a whole new light on pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. With her support, knowledge and validation, home felt like the safest space for our son’s birth. In one of my last prenatal appointments I sat with Chloe drinking tea, going over physical and emotional feelings just like our other appointments. Reflecting on all of our time together, I felt a bit of sadness knowing these appointments would soon come to end. When a mother finds a provider who makes space for empowerment and validation, she can do anything her mind sets out to do. Chloe is that provider and more. She’ll always hold a special place in our family’s heart.”

  • “I highly recommend Being and Born to anyone considering a home birth! Chloé was everything I needed for my most recent home birth. Every prenatal appointment was relaxed and fun. I had a virtually stress free pregnancy, a quick uncomplicated delivery, and my best postpartum yet! Chloé ensured all my preferences for my birth were honored, included my daughters in my birth like I wanted, and has made multiple postpartum visits to check on me and baby. She truly cares so much about moms and their babies, both before and after birth! I was never worried that anything would go wrong during my birth, but I completely trusted Chloé to know when and how to intervene if needed. I genuinely am so grateful to Chloé for being my midwife!”

  • “As I'm sitting here writing this one whole year after my birth (sorry Chloe 🤦🏻‍♀️), I'm reflecting on all that came to pass. Chloe made my entire experience so less stressful. Her office is child friendly. She is so calm and sweet and pleasant to talk to. I immediately felt comfortable with her. During my pregnancy with Syd, some huge life events happened and she made sure I knew she was there for me. You can't find that anywhere else. The whole experience with her was so personable and I felt like an actual human being that mattered, not just another job. When the time to give birth actually happened, she was so calm and soothing. She didn't freak out about anything, even when something happened that could make one freak out a bit. Everything was perfect and I am so thankful for Chloe!! *IF* I ever have another one, I will 100% be booking with Chloe again. 10/10, highly, highly recommend!!”

  • “I cannot say enough how wonderful of an experience it was, from beginning to end, working with Chloe for my home birth. Chloe was warm, caring, and professional. Having had a very painful hospital delivery with my daughter, I was worried how a home birth would be, but Chloe gave me the space and tools to have a birth that I felt I was in control and able to have my baby without the pain and difficulty of being restricted to a hospital bed.”

    - Holly S.

  • “Chloe is absolutely amazing! Writing a review for her is difficult because words fall short of describing the wonderful and caring person that she is and the energy and work she brings to each mother/family. She is always available for even the tiniest of questions and she was always at least an hour with me for every visit—sometimes longer (which if you are comparing, my OBGYN at the most gave me 15 min. per appointment). But the main reason I picked her—because it can be hard selecting a midwife when you are judging off of one or two conversations—is her honesty and her modesty. Chloe can assess a situation and know her abilities and her limits. For me this is the most important, as much as I want a natural birth, there are things that may happen that require a hospital. From the very beginning, Chloe was open and honest with how she would handle difficult situations and when the time came (figures my birth would be one of those) she made that hard call and that trust we had ensured the healthy, safe birth of my baby girl! Chloe will always give the best advice for you and your child, let YOU make the decision, and she will easily become a part of your family. If I have any more children, it will only be under the care of Being and Born!”

I’d love to hear from you!
